Every once in a while, someone extraordinary comes along. And if you’ve met 16 year old Kasey Wien, you’d agree that she fits that description. Kasey surely embodies the Life is Sweet spirit. And this weekend, this sweet kid, will do her part– helping others –in the battle against leukemia and lymphoma. It’s a battle she knows all too well. Kasey’s a survivor. She was diagnosed with leukemia at 13 months old. This week, she is celebrating her 13th anniversary cancer free.
I got a chance to meet Kasey exactly one year ago, when the then high school sophomore launched her 1st annual “Pie Party” to fight cancer. Her idea was to give back and celebrate the sweetness of life by hosting a community wide event to raise awareness and money in the fight against the disease. It was a contest to find the “best pie in town”… complete with pie eating challenge and all. Her sweet event and great idea raised about $14,ooo for the cause, benefitting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
And this year, Kasey and her family are back at it for the 2nd Annual Wien Pie Party. Bring your best pie to compete or just stop by for a taste. Contest categories include most popular, most creative, best overall pie etc. It takes place this Sunday March 25th from 1:00pm- 3:30pm at the Woodmere Fire Station.
