They don’t call it “Strong Beach” for nothing. The Long Beach Ice Arena is back… And NY Rangers Alumni Legends came “home” to celebrate!

The New York Rangers, Chase, and The City of Long Beach hosted a grand reopening for the arena, which has been out of operation since Superstorm Sandy devastated the city nearly a year ago.

Back in the 70’s the Long Beach Arena was the practice facility for the Blueshirts, and Rangers players made Long Beach their home.

NY Ranger legends were back in the city by the sea today for the celebration–and we got the chance to catch up with the greats: Ron Greschner, Ron Duguay, Nick Fotiu, Steve Vickers, and “Stemmer”, Pete Stemkowski.

In addition to the ribbon cutting, a skate around, and a kids hockey clinic, Rangers greats took the ice for a special exhibition hockey game along with City of Long Beach hometown heros: police, firemen and first responders.

Proceeds from the game will go to City of Long Beach Relief Fund.

With a great Assist from the Rangers — it was a win for Long Beach!

(New York Rangers Assist is a program supported by Chase that has worked with the City of Long Beach to help bring the arena back to life. The renovations began in February. The Rangers Assist program is designed to improve the youth hockey experience and access to the sport.)
